Passwords are very important. They protect our sensitive and personal information. In today’s world of technology there are passwords for everything and it is important to make them diverse and secure.

New call-to-action

Create a Strong Password

We want to encourage you to strengthen your password and security for your accounts. Here are a few tips to increase your password strength:

  1. Absolute minimum of 8 characters. (********)
  2. Use letters that are capital and lower case. (AaBbCc)
  3. Numbers throughout the password. (123456)
  4. Symbols that diversify the code from normal letters and numbers. (!?@#$%&;)
  5. Never use anniversaries, birthdays, names of family members or anything that is directly related to a specific event in your personal life.

If you have multiple accounts that need a secure password, it is important to differentiate the passwords. You will want to come up with something that is memorable but not too obvious.

Here are a few ideas for passwords that are easy to remember and hard to crack:

  1. Use your age in a sentence. Example: Iam:)2b29! (I am happy to be 29!)
  2. Use a sentence that you will never forget and take the first letter of each word out of that sentence. Example: TfhIeliw613FS.Rw$4pm (“The first house I ever lived in was 613 Fake Street. Rent was $400 per month.”)
  3. Use a school start date that people will not know about. (Don’t use your college or high school grad date) Example: Is7gaLMSi#2010! (“I started 7th grade at Lincoln Middle School in 2010!”)

The Final Tip: Treat your passwords like a toothbrush. Don’t let anyone use them and get a new one every 6 months.

These tips will keep your passwords more secure and allow you to feel safe online. Check back each week for tech tips and news from the IT industry.
